What does asbestos look like

asbestos disease

It is very difficult to identify the presence of asbestos by eye. As a general rule, certain building materials installed before the late 1980s may contain asbestos. However, the only way to be certain is to have a sample of the material analysed by a laboratory. Contact the  national Association of  Testing Authorities (NATA)  for an analytical laboratory in your area that is accredited to identify asbestos. This should be carried out before any general maintenance, renovation or demolition activities proceed.

If you do not want to go to the expense of testing to determine if asbestos is present, then the material should be treated as though it contains asbestos.
